Supporters of marriage equality to Rally once more at
Cabell County courthouse.
For immediate release:
-Huntington, WV 1/31/2013 A grassroots group of
LGBT citizens and supporters plan to rally again at the Cabell County
courthouse in Huntington, WV on Valentine’s day. Encouraged by the first “Apply
for Equality” event last February 14th, the organizers, Justin
Murdock and fiancé William Glavaris along with straight ally, Raine Klover are
preparing for a bigger and better presence for 2013.
The event will begin at 10am and run until 2pm. During this
time, there will be a rally outside the courthouse where supporters of same sex
marriage will display signs expressing their views and several short speeches
supporting marriage equality will be made. At the same time, same sex couples
will be entering the courthouse to apply for marriage licenses.
“We understand and realize that just as last year, we will
be turned down this year,” says Justin, who, hand-in-hand with fiancé William,
applied for a license during last years event. “Its not about actually thinking
we can get the license, but making a public statement that we want equal rights
to marriage in the state of WV. There is momentum building for marriage
equality on a state by state level and the federal level and we just want our
friends and neighbors here in Cabell county and across WV to know that it is
not some ‘far away’ issue, but an issue that affects nearly 40,000 LGBT residents
right here in WV. Its time for a positive dialogue on marriage equality here at
home.”
The organizers have been very busy advertising for the event
and urging attendees to share the event via social media. Raine also designed
an official logo, a fitting and simple design of an ‘equal’ sign inside a heart
shape, which will appear on posters and T-shirts for the rally.
